Congratulations you’re engaged! But now what? Apart from sharing the wonderful news with your family and friends, changing your Facebook status and reliving your engagement story, people will start asking you what your wedding plans are.
This is an exciting time for you. Don’t get overwhelmed, or stressed out, or feel the need to rush to look for vendors or try on wedding dresses immediately. Take a step back, and here are a few tips on what you could do next…

- Head count – Start compiling your preliminary guest list, and have both sets of parents vet your list so there are no surprises later! This approximate number will subsequently lead to booking your reception venue, ordering stationary, catering numbers and so on. Yes it can be daunting and you start thinking, did you miss anyone out? Don’t worry, the idea is to have an estimate, all else will follow through.
- Picking a date, even if it’s not the date – come to a consensus on a rough period when you would like to get married. It’ll help you answer whenever someone asks “when’s the wedding?” Even though it’s a vague, yet specific answer, it’ll give you some direction and makes planning your wedding real so you can start making decisions about other things.
- Relax and have fun! Before you get caught up in looking at venues and everything else, and unless you’re planning on getting married 2-3 months after being engaged, don’t forget to enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience with each other. [/list]
Keep staring at that beautiful engagement ring of yours; enjoy being engaged and start thinking about what you both want for your wedding.
