In preparation for a friend's baby shower this past weekend, I put together a pom pom garland for some of the decor at the shower. I learnt how to do this by watching tutorials on YouTube and other blogs, so I thought I'd show you how easy it really is to put this together and get a lovely product at the end!
First up - Supplies you need:
- Tissue paper (you can get these easily at the Dollar Store)
- Thin floral wire (I got this from Michaels)
- String, twine, ribbon (whatever you want to use to string it together)
Step 1 - Take the large tissue paper that's already stacked and cut the tissue paper into 5" x 7" strips.
Step 2 - Once you've cut enough strips, count out 6 layers per pom pom and set it aside. I cut and counted them out all at once to save time later.
Step 3 - For each stack of 6 layer sheets, make a 1/2-inch fold, turn the paper over and keep folding accordion style until completely folded.
Step 4 - Fold in half and wrap the floral wire (or string) around the middle of the folded tissue paper stack.
Step 5 - Once complete, pinch the accordion together and trim the edges so they are rounded.
Step 6 - Pull the sheets apart so it looks like a fan (like the photo below).
Step 7 - Start fluffing the sheets of paper, do this by peeling three layers apart then peel the remaining three layers, and repeat on the other side until you get a fully fluffed pom pom.
Step 8 - Repeat the above steps until you have enough pom poms for your garland. Once you have them all, simply string them together and voila, you have your own pom pom garland!
What do you think? Pretty easy right? This is something you can do for simple decoration at your wedding if you're a crafty DIY bride.
